A feeler I am putting out here first to gauge interest and see if any little fishies bite. There may or may not ever be a 2nd edition of Yoon-Suin (I am currently leaning towards a "no"). However, I do think that a megadungeon or series of adventure sites set in Yoon-Suin (but possibly of broad enough application to be dropped into other campaign worlds) is something that has legs. Is anybody in this community either (a) an established map-maker who would be willing to collaborate on such a project; or (b) somebody who would like to become an established map-maker who would be willing to collaborate on such a project? Usual caveats apply (no promises; I am lazy and sometimes difficult to get in touch with and don't use social media except on G+; I have other stuff to do as well and often get extremely busy, etc. etc.). If you are interested please do NOT post here but contact me by email.
Brother, perhaps it's a test, but what's your e-mail?
ReplyDeleteI vote a set of adventure sites. And maybe a small appendix of additional Yoon-Suin material- like what a Slugman spell list would look like?
ReplyDeleteCourtney Campbell jean.delumeau@gmail.com - sorry, I thought there was some way of getting it through G+!
ReplyDeleteI think we're at the stage where we'd all just love something else for Yoon-Suin.
ReplyDeleteMegadungeons always sound like the coolier option (And frankly would be), but several smaller sites would let you showcase the variety and have so much more applicability for most people (I am guessing). Also an easier ask on you.
Tough call. I am no help.
Tough one to call. I think the megadungeon idea would be one which could fit more readily into other campaigns, or just be a campaign in itself which could be bought and used stand alone. The adventure sites idea would be more of an addendum to Yoon-Suin, but more variety and probably more useful for fans.
ReplyDeleteAnd you do have fans... Just saying.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you cared!
ReplyDeleteWhat if you do several adventure sites that can be combined to form a sorta "Megadungeon Voltron"? That's a way to split the difference.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear more Yoon Suin goodness is cooking in your head. Just take the parts of YS that everyone liked and do that. See? Easy, practically writes itself.
ReplyDeleteMy wares, plied forth:

Dyson Logos is one of my favorite map makers, but I see a ton of great maps on g+.
ReplyDeleteI think you are misjudging the popularity and growth of this hobby by wanting to go a megadungeon route. What you really need is a voice actor and some famous people in a Yoon-Suin setting on twitch. Look at how many people watch critical role.
(I am biased as an enthusiast) All the 5e books have been printed under the forgotten realms campaign, but it was announced they will be releasing some different campaign settings. You already have a great setting but you suffer from lack of exposure. It is no secret I would like a 5e, DCC and ICRPG version of your setting.
I believe Yoon-Suin should be there when this new surge of 5e players start to look past the sword coast.
Mark Johnson I think Yoon-Suin may be a bit too far out of WotC's comfort zone with all the opium and slavery and whatnot.... It would be nice to be proved wrong, obviously!
ReplyDeleteMark Johnson isn't wrong about the twitch though. Thousands of people watching Adam Kobel, over 100,000 watching critical role.
ReplyDeleteThe games that are being run on twitch and such are intended for a mature audience.
ReplyDeleteAs long you asked for free advice, allow me to spew this: Starting with a megadungeon sounds like it would take a lot of time (making us wait), and be difficult. Unless you have it already in the chamber. But then you have the issue of a large purchase price, so that will limit your audience. I would like to see "dungeons" from around Yoon Suin, each as individual works. A palace and intrigues in the Yellow City, a pair of Hundred Kingdom city states locked in war, a tributary of the God River with all the opium and slave dealers, pirates and merchant clans. That sort of thing. A flavor of the setting, with some details drilled down. Something players can wander into and have a crawl
ReplyDeleteMark Johnson I'm not sure I know what twitch is. I am a dinosaur. Is it like youtube?
ReplyDeleteJoe Webb Yeah, I can see the benefit of that and I do think it is more readily achievable.

ReplyDeleteMost people use it to watch video games, but it also it gets used to broadcast D&D games. It is like YouTube but more categorized. With the next generation being more interested in internet videos than actual TV shows, this is where I believe a weekly Yoon-Suin campaign might get some traction. It would need to be more focused with production value but some exposure there would be good.
I got my physical copy of Yoon-Suin so I could chime in on the layout (I had the pdf first because the campaign was suggested on a YouTube video, same way I found out about DCC) The more horizontal layout is great. People are crazy for suggesting that to be changed. I will try and remember to post a bragging pic of my book later.
Thank you again for writing it. I like the exotic feel of the campaign and I mean interesting and fun when I say exotic (i guess exotic has different connotations depending on where you are from).

David McGrogan If there is not to be a second edition, would it be possible to add a hardback option to Lulu?
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDeleteEcho the call for hardback options! I'd happily buy a second copy, as my paperback gets more and more beat up from being thrown in my bag. ;)
