Has anyone here run Yoon-Suin with AD&D 1e? If you have, I would love to hear your experiences with this combination.

I've been getting back into 1e, my first true love, and have been pouring over all the orange-spine goodness over the last few weeks. One of these tomes is Oriental Adventures. For those of you who don't know it, it's essentially additional rules for running oriental-themed campaigns such as Kara-Tur. After reading it my first thought was that this was a perfect fit for Yoon-Suin!

I haven't done much gaming lately and I would like to cure this by running an AD&D 1e Yoon-Suin game via roll20/Hangouts.

  1. I think it would be a great fit! If you end up running a game online and need players, I’d join you if the days work out.

  3. I ran a hybrid of B/X D&D with AD&D classes, and it worked wonderfully. No one used any Oriental Adventures classes although they had the option to and I wish they had (they came from the “West” and liked those characters). I also used Ruins and Ronin, and Asian themed OSR supplement for monsters and such. And I had planned to use an Ogre Magi lair from one of the Books of Lairs for AD&D. There was a ninja lair in one of those books as well, worth checking out as one of the few (easily remedied) weaknesses of Yoon-Suin is the lack of dungeons.

  4. Mark Sable I completely forgot about Ruins and Ronin! Thanks for the reminder. The Book of Lairs is another great resource to use, great idea. As for a lack of premade dungeons, agreed, but that’s where I can add some additional flavour. Thanks for the feedback!
