I've been experimenting with a 2D6 + 19-Hex Flower game engine (it's like a random table with a memory).
I've been experimenting with a 2D6 + 19-Hex Flower game engine (it's like a random table with a memory). Anyhow, I used this to make a procedural method of exploring a Giant Tree (based on the ideas mentioned in David David McGrogan's Blog).
If you are interested in the idea you can find out more here: https://goblinshenchman.wordpress.com/2018/10/25/2d6-hex-power-flower/
Anyway, below is the map engine, I'd be interested to know what you think!
Edit - ‘Settlement’ was intended to be at 50% chance on the hex; and it could be a simple platform, cluster of buildings or full on city.
I approve. Keep it up man, I liked the other one you did too.
ReplyDeleteAngus Warman i know you’ve created some table generators for different creatures. Is something to navigate this engine and output it’s results within your powers? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteAlistair Langsford Text only? Certainly viable. Could probably make an auto-gen of it as well, depending if people would use that or not shrug
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe I’m being too timid. But 6 steps at a time dumped as text gives me something i can easily draw. And fiddle with/add to.
ReplyDeleteAngus Warman and Alistair Langsford - I would be interested in seeing this too. Could you include a choice of start location? Also, please see the edit above about chance of settlement.
ReplyDelete:O)
Goblins Henchman Yeah - it seems to me that these procedural hex flow diagrams you’ve been developing can generate quite a few different things. In this case if you change some of the terms and parameters, you could get a “dungeon” as much as a “tree”. Or you could generate a network of cities and their trade routes perhaps... but for now, I’d be interested in seeing what sort of tree could be generated.
ReplyDeleteAlistair Langsford - all interesting ideas.
ReplyDeleteI’ve also thought about tracking outcomes when a PC hIts 0 HPs, rather than simply progressing to -10 HP (and death). Or some form of critical hit tracker/generator. Lots of possibilities!
:O)
Will have to have a play around with it and digest.
ReplyDeleteI've made a slight change to the picture, to add "50%" to the key for the grey dashed 'Settlement' Hex.
