Yoon-Suin: Session 3 Recap
Yoon-Suin: Session 3 Recap
Thinking better of their plan to continue purging the ruins of Axolotl Men, the party instead figured out that they were so laden with coins that they would already be traveling at half speed on their way back to the Yellow City, making an 8-day hike on the beach out of what was 4 days on their way out.
They foraged as they went, managing to pick berries at the forest's edge and identifying some edible kelp and crustaceans on most days. None of the five went hungry. Milo, the Halfling thief, was particularly helpful in finding good eats.
One day, they were surprised by a Woodlouse Man ambush. With some quick thinking, they jingled pouches of silver coins, and stalled long enough to negotiate. Rumi the Slug Magician met the Woodlouse leader on neutral ground and Charmed him, and so convinced him to let the party go for 200 silver coins -- far, far more than the 11 copper pieces that the Woodlouse Men were carrying (the party didn't know this).
Some days later, they entered a stretch of Lamarakh near the Yellow City, almost home. They spotted a procession of Jungle Treants marching through the forest, and remained silent and still, watching the rare creatures. The berry harvest was bountiful in their wake.
The next day, they rested, and in a bit of wandering found a tree with two Dryads resting and talking at its base. Gasthire the Elf Fighter addressed them in Elvish, and found that their language, even so far away from his home, was mutually intelligible. He flirted, asked questions, and in no time was Charmed and moving towards their tree, threatening to disappear forever. The party charged forward, hacking at the Dryads, trying to hold on to Gasthire, Rumi, and then Marc the Dwarf Cleric as they were all charmed and started their death march.
The Dryad who charmed Gasthire and Rumi was killed just in time, but the second, which had charmed Marc, lived just long enough for the Dwarf to reach her tree. With a squelch, he disappeared. The survivors recovered a treasure trove from the tree's roots after chopping it down, and even further bogged down by their greed and their companion's death, took two more days to reach the relative safety of the Yellow City.

A quick side question - what is the coin weight in the system you are using?
ReplyDelete10 coins per pound.
ReplyDeleteKassidy Helfant This value has varied in D&D editions - it's usually 50/pound, but some are 10 and a few are 100. Historically, 100/pound is more reasonable... but hey, 10/pound can create some interesting choices.
ReplyDeleteYep! I went with Labyrinth Lord's values as-written. It resulted in a lot of careful calculation on the part of the players. They were close to burying some of the dryads' treasure and making a map to return to it before deciding to enter the next encumberance level!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you write the report. Swift, but still detailed and evocative. Enjoyed the read!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was thinking that the term "Recap" doesn't quite feel right with the post length, so it's nice to have some affirmation!
ReplyDeleteI usually dislike session reports, as it sounds like someone else's fever dream, but these are interesting and helpful to me as a novice DM.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, that's great to know!
ReplyDeleteThey definitely are tricky to write well - I have a lot to learn in that regard.
