I have created a Yoon-Suin subreddit to take over from this G+ site for when Doomsday comes. It can be found here: https://old.reddit.com/r/YoonSuin/ (I guess there will be a different link for new reddit, but you will hopefully find it easily enough.) Please feel free to start posting. I am going to try to find a way to keep everything posted here and archive it somehow, and will update you on progress.

  1. Beloch Shrike would you mind archiving this community?

  2. Second that, for whatever its worth. If you can spare the time, I'd say this is a very worthy community to rescue.

  3. Who would like the files?

I'll extract them in .JSON, and both Blogger & Wordpress formatted .xml files. In order to be viewable someone will need to upload them to one of those platforms.

    I'll need an email address.

  4. I don't know the how/what/why of it. I suspect I'm not the wrong person, but if no one else takes them, I will. I'd seek a good home for them and maybe do the work myself.

  5. What's the difference between old.reddit and new.reddit? :S :confussed.

  6. Luka Rejec In terms of content, there's no difference. "New." and "old." refer to the website's layout. I think new.reddit might have some extra features for user's profiles maybe, but nothing very important.

Reddit underwent a major redesign recently and (like most social media), they're attempting to mitigate the backlash by making the new layout "optional." In a few years they'll force everyone onto new.reddit, but by then there will be so few people using the old layout that the backlash will be minor.

  7. I've sent the files to Michael Bacon, who will presumably put them up somewhere.

  8. cool.

what did you use to takeout the files?

  9. Luka Rejec It's called "Google+ Exporter." It costs $20.

  10. Aha, I've heard of it. Good to hear other people use it to. I'll get a hold of it to get my images and collections out, I suppose.

  11. Luka Rejec So, if you're interested in your own collections, Google Takeout (a free service google currently offers) might be a good fit for you. The organization is shit, but it's free.

I can't currently recommend Google+ Exporter for images. They did add the ability to extract images in the 1.6 update, but I haven't figured out how to make it work properly yet.

Other people seem happy with the image export function, so maybe I'm just doing things wrong. Need to find some time to tinker with it.

  12. Eh. Sigh.

The main problem I have with Google Takeout is that it's hard to reconstruct posts + pictures. I often have text to go with each picture.

Well, I'll do a Google Takeout first and see how that goes. Thanks for the heads-up on the picture problem!

  13. Luka Rejec I am a perpetually scatterbrained person, but if I manage to get it working reliably I'll give you a heads up.

  14. With a little effort it would be possible to convert the posts and comments into Reddit posts/comments with a little effort. I'm planning to attempt this as soon as I can get a full export of my communities.

  15. According to this G-support post: support.google.com - Download your Google+ data - Google+ Help Community owners/moderators will be able to do a full export.

"Important: Starting early March 2019, you will also be able to download additional details from public communities, including author, body, and photos for every community post."
